Daily Reel #1.

Today marks number 1 of my Daily Reel. I have a ton of photos that I shoot at shoots, at shows, and in my personal time that don’t make it to my portfolio or I shot on film and it took me forever to go get them developed. I wanted to start a daily posting to feature work, especially a lot of film work I’ve done/am doing, as well as show off more personal work. I will be posting these images on Instagram and Facebook, but there will be a written summary about each one, so you will come here for that. That is if you like to read, which I believe is an important part of living, so maybe some of you will too. Sometimes I’ll give a brief summary, other times it may be a 5 Paragraph Essay. Grammar Nazi’s be advised!  I plan on updating every day except Sundays. So let’s do this.

This shot was from a roll I shot when I was on a shoot with Larkin Poe in 2011 at the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta. I’ve never been huge on shooting in cemetery’s, unless it absolutely fit. When I shot and edited the digital images I felt it fit real well, but when I received the film roll and finally got around to scanning them images… I truly thought it fit. I wished I had had these images to deliver with the final shots. But that’s what I get for shooting “just a couple shots for fun”. It’s creepy, a bit out-of-focus, and a nice grain. They had the right clothes and stance. I cleaned it up a little, but left a good bit of the dust and scratches, because it just fits. It’s not the “best” shot from the roll, I have a lot others that I love and that were better captures, but man, I love the feel of this image.

Specs: Shot with a 1970 Canon Canonet QL17 (Solid Black version, for those of you who care about rare cameras). Used Ilford XP2-2 Super Black & White Film. Minimal post clean up and contrast adjustment.

Till tomorrow!

I love the soft focus here, really moody and great.
